An attacker successfully breached the TRON official X account at 9:25 A.M. PST on May 2 through a specific technique known as social engineering. The hacker obtained access by taking advantage of a team member before using the account to execute suspicious operations and direct messages while following accounts without permission.
Official Response
TRON DAO issued immediate alerts to its users that “TRON DAO will never disseminate contract addresses nor initiate unexpected direct messages.” May 2 DMs sent by our account need immediate deletion because they are products of the security breach. Founder Justin Sun demanded OKX freeze the contested funds from the attack while he reposted the safety alert.

Investigation Underway
The organization named several X and Telegram accounts linked to the attacker yet it continues working jointly with law enforcement to examine the attack incident. TRON remains vigilant about observing the breach exploitation attempts made by attackers even though they regained control of their network.
Growing Threat Landscape
Such social engineering attacks in crypto constitute a concerning recent trend because research shows they account for 98% of all cyberattacks. At least two high-profile incidents involving massive cryptocurrency losses have hit the news in recent times where an American elderly man lost $330 million and another person lost $40 million to highly sophisticated phishing attacks that proved even solid organizations are susceptible.
