Aya Miyaguchi has been appointed President of the Ethereum Foundation, a radical change in leadership for the organization. Miyaguchi, a seven-year Executive Director, will be focused on institutional collaborations and cultural development of Ethereum. This is when the foundation is faced with recent pectra testnet upgrade failures on Holesky failure.
Highlight Institutional Collaborations and Cultural Development
Throughout her Feb. 25 tweet, Miyaguchi talked of further development in expanding the Ethereum network.

“It’s been amazing to witness this growth,” she said regarding network diversification from the early days when the network was dominated by a few players to the decentralized, vibrant platform now. Miyaguchi intends to make institutional relationships more tangible in order to further solidify Ethereum’s position among users and developers.
She was keen to highlight the importance of community-led development when she stated, “This richness—where technical and social innovation intertwine and influence each other—isn’t just a feature of Ethereum; it’s the reason it endures.” Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin credited the stability and success of the foundation to her.
Controversy and Community Criticism
Even though Miyaguchi enjoys broad support, his appointment has not been controversy-free. Some members of the community have criticized the leadership model of the foundation, and there have been calls for reform and even harassment of Miyaguchi. Eric Conner, a core developer, had been calling for Danny Ryan to become the Executive Director, which caused tension in the community.

Pectra Upgrade Fails on Holesky Testnet
Transition leadership is beginning to be associated with technical problems. Upgrades for Pectra was also cancelled on the Holesky testnet after a misconfiguration of the deposit contract was discovered. This made various Execution Layer (EL) clients handle deposits in various ways and affect consensus. Although the issue was isolated to Holesky, it was an allusion to fundamental vulnerabilities in client implementations.
Looking Ahead
As Miyaguchi assumes the new role, the Ethereum Foundation has to grapple with a twin challenge: establishing institutional relations and addressing technical vulnerabilities. Pectra testnet failure speaks volumes about the complexity of the Ethereum upgrade process, and the leadership of Miyaguchi is meant to push through these difficulties while maintaining the network’s advancement.
