What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a Pokémon-inspired blockchain game that was developed by Sky Mavis and launched in Q1 2018. Blending the likes of blockchain tech, digital assets and traditional gaming, Axie Infinity introduces an online universe where players collect, trade, battle and breed Axies, the fantasy creatures each represented as a unique NFT.
What Are Axies?
The Axie creatures each come with distinctive parts and attributes ranging from four different rarities: common, rare, ultra rare and legendary. Once taken into battle, these Axie NFTs can earn XP, which can then be used to level up the rarities of the parts and attributes, and therefore further increase the overall value of the Axie.

The mission was to launch more than just a game, but instead, a revolution. Axie wanted to give gamers true ownership of their digital assets, giving the world the power to earn real value through fun gameplay, and they did. All Axies, items and land can be sold on the open and native decentralized Axie marketplace, making it a fully lucrative gaming ecosystem.

Although things have slowed down, there hasn’t been a blockchain game capable of beating Axie’s records, yet anyway.
According to sources, during its peak between 2020 and 2021, some rare Axie NFTs have been sold for $100K and reportedly, one user sold a plot of digital Axie land for $2.3M.
At its peak, Axie Infinity had over 2.7 million users playing the game in one single day, wow. Today, there are reports that it has an average of 15,000 daily users, and although Axie Infinity isn’t as popular as it once was, they are still powering a fully playable and addictive P2E ecosystem of games.

Powering this infamous P2E game is a dual-token economy, which is split between $AXS and $SLP. The $AXS token primarily acts as the governance token, whereas the $SLP token is the in-game currency earned through gameplay and used to breed new Axie monsters.

According to CoinMarketCap, at the time of writing, $AXS is priced at $2.23 with a large market cap of $369.71M, and peaked at an ATH of $165.37 in November 2021.
The $SLP token is currently trading at $0.001283 with a small market cap of $46.14M, and achieved an ATH of $0.4191 in May 2021.
