T

he Open Network (TON) is an emerging blockchain platform that launched in 2019 intending to bring cryptocurrency to the mainstream masses. TON was originally developed by the Telegram messaging app, which boasts over 1.5 million monthly active users worldwide. While Telegram eventually halted integration plans due to regulatory issues, the TON blockchain continued development as an independent open-source project.

TON differentiates itself from other blockchain networks in several key ways:

  • Integration with Telegram - Even without full integration, TON maintains a close partnership with Telegram that allows easy wallet setup and transactions directly within the Telegram app. This ultra-low barrier to entry could drive significant adoption.
  • Speed and Scalability - TON is engineered to process millions of transactions per second with near-instant finality. This performance far surpasses older blockchains and enables real-world use cases removed from high fees and slow confirmation times.
  • Constant Improvements - Active development continues under the TON Foundation, including upgrades to features like smart contracts, privacy tools, decentralized storage, and compatibility with other networks. Regular hard forks keep the protocol upgraded without wasting existing coins.
  • Thriving Ecosystem - TON has established a vibrant developer community producing dApps ranging from DeFi protocols to gaming metaverses in just two years. The growing suite of tools and experiences is rapidly expanding the usability of the network.

The results are already showing. In the last two months alone, TON's Total Value Locked (TVL) increased nearly 10x to over $266 million according to data site Defillama. Active wallets have surpassed 1.7 million and daily transaction counts are rising exponentially as word spreads.

Given its strong fundamentals, developer activity, and integration advantages - TON has the potential to accelerate mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency on a global scale. It's an ecosystem well worth exploring.

What is The Open League?

The Open League (TOL) is a flagship initiative by the TON Foundation to promote participation across the TON blockchain. Designed as a long-term incentive structure, The Open League runs competitive seasons where TON projects, traders, and users can compete for prize pools worth millions in TON tokens.

Each TOL "season" lasts several weeks with leaderboards tracking key project metrics like Total Value Locked (TVL), Number of Users/Wallets, Trading Volumes, Transactions per Day, Community Growth, Price Performance

At the end of each season, the top-performing teams and individuals across different categories earn rewards proportionate to their rankings. This spurs ongoing product iterations, and marketing efforts, and expands the overall developer talent pool supporting TON.

In addition to competitive rewards, TOL offers incentives like boosted liquidity pools for high performers. Participating gives users a chance at prizes and also helps contribute to an expanding, robust TON ecosystem over the long run.

TOL organizes competitions across three main categories focused on core TON activities:

1. Token & Memecoin Battle: Major League

Targeting high-profile established tokens and meme coins, the Major League awards prizes up to $500,000 per season. Contestants are evaluated based on their metrics as well as support for initiatives like providing boosted liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like DeDust and Ston.

Eligible projects include those with a Total Value Locked over $50,000 and an established token mining mechanism as part of their core product. Major League teams also commit matching rewards of up to 50,000 TON per month allocated by the TOL Foundation to liquidity providers.

2. Token & Memecoin Battle: Minor League

For mid-level and emerging projects, the Minor League offers a proving ground to demonstrate potential with smaller prizes. Top Minor League performers each season are promoted to the Major League for a chance at bigger rewards the following round.

3.  App Battle

Focusing on the exploding field of decentralized applications (dApps) on TON, the App Battle rewards innovative programs and services. Judges consider metrics such as daily active users, transaction volumes, and overall product quality/experience.

How to Participate in The Open League

Whether you're a project leader, trader, liquidity provider, or just starting - there are different ways to engage with The Open League at any level:

The Open League caters to participation options for users of all experience levels whether you're a project leader, trader, liquidity provider, or just starting.

Here are different ways to engage with The Open League:

Compete as a Project

TON teams can apply to directly compete in the Major or Minor Leagues by optimizing their protocol metrics and contributing to liquidity programs. Major League spots are highly competitive, so the Minor League is a great testing ground. Regardless, participation brings exposure, feedback, and chances at prize pools.

Earn as a User

- Beginners can complete basic tasks, missions, and challenges from competing projects to earn rewards passively.

- Intermediate users can predict the rankings of projects competing each season. Correct predictions earn TON rewards from a prize pool. Users just need to understand basic project metrics.

- Experts provide liquidity to incentivized token pairs on DEXes like DeDust and Ston.fi.  As a Liquidity Provider, you earn trading fees and additional rewards from TOL and participating projects. This requires understanding impermanent loss risks.

Qualify for Airdrops

TON provides cryptic hints for airdrops available to those interacting with certain promoted memcoins, NFTs, games or DEXes. Staying tapped into official Telegram/Twitter channels is key to solving clues. Past examples favoured OG traders and hodlers of specific assets.

Setting Up Your TON Wallet

The first step is downloading a compatible TON wallet to hold, send, and receive TON tokens (TONcoin). There are a few options, but the most popular and fully featured is Tonkeeper:

1. Visit https://tonkeeper.com/ and click the blue "Download" button

2.  Select the version for your device - desktop, Android or iOS. Follow on-screen installation instructions.

3. Open the Tonkeeper App and click "Create Wallet." Write down the 12-word recovery phrase and password you create - these can restore your funds if you lose your phone.

4. Transfer a small amount of TON or USD coin (USDC, USDT) for trading/swapping. You can acquire these on exchanges.

5. Once logged in, you can send/receive TONcoin or compatible tokens and interact directly within Telegram via the @tonkeeper bot.

Congrats! Your TON wallet is now set up. Make sure to keep your recovery credentials ultra secure - if lost, there is no resetting access. Also, consider transferring large holdings to a hardware wallet for maximum security. But for starters, Tonkeeper provides a very streamlined onramp.

The Open League is a groundbreaking initiative driving mainstream adoption of TON through ongoing competitive rewards and incentives. As the programs continue expanding and refining over time, the opportunities for participation and rewards will only increase.

For innovative projects and ambitious users alike, TON offers a thriving launchpad. The ecosystem is growing rapidly with new DEXs, decentralized applications, and tools introduced every month. With its seamless integration into Telegram and focus on usability, TON is primed to onboard millions of everyday users into cryptocurrency ownership.
